Chinese retail major Yishion said it has entered the Indian market and plans to have at least 125 points of sales, including exclusive stores and multi-brand outlets, across the country by 2012. The $ 12 billion company, which specialises in apparels and accessories, said it has formed a 50:50 joint venture with Delhi-based marketing and distribution firm Upmarket Group. It will open its first exclusive store in the national capital by September.


Lifestyle's Indian journey began over a decade ago in Chennai. And now, the company is all set for a second outing in the city with its new store, covering three floors and 80,000 sq.ft. at the swanky new Express Avenue Mall on Whites Road.


Planet Sports, one of India's largest multi-brand sports and lifestyle specialty retail chain, has recently opened its new outlet in Pune. The 4,000 sq.ft exclusive store is located at SGS Mall. The store offers consumers a wide selection of international sports and lifestyle brands such as Skechers, Wilson, Converse, Speedo, Prince, Reebok, Nike, Adidas, Spalding and Puma.


Major Brands, which has a number of international lifestyle brands under its portfolio, has recently opened exclusive brand outlets (EBOs) of two of its brands - Promod and Aldo - at G7 Mall in Mumbai. With the opening of these stores, Aldo and Promod have taken their store count to two each in Mumbai.


Myntra - India's largest on-demand consumer products personalization brand has launched the 'Brand Store'. It is an exclusive portal created for corporates for all their brand merchandising needs. Along with marketing, operational and customer support, this offering from Myntra provides good value proposition in terms of discounts on merchandise from top sports and lifestyle brands in the country.


Reliance Jewels, the jewellery specialty store from Reliance Retail, today launched its first store here today. The store is the third in Karnataka and 23rd in the country.

Entering the Indian market may have seemed an attractive proposition for luxury brands, but there's one thing they didn't bargain for: manpower challenge. Luxury brands are being forced to recruit from industries like hospitality and telecom, run extensive training programmes and even poach manpower from mature luxury markets like the Middle East.


Modern retailers are facing acute shortage of skilled manpower in Uttar Pradesh, with almost 90 per cent of the new recruiters requiring comprehensive and on-job training. The manpower crunch is more pronounced in the junior and middle management levels, Big Bazaar area manager S N Gangil said.
