Shoppers Stop posts Rs 19-cr net

Festival sales and cost-cutting has helped lifestyle retailer Shoppers Stop to return to the black in the December quarter. The retail arm of K Raheja group has recorded a net profit of Rs 19.2 crore in the December quarter against a loss of Rs 20.5 crore in the year-ago period. Gross turnover, during the period, rose by 15% to Rs 427.4 crore.

Alok inks Rs 45-cr PE funding for its cash and carry biz

Textiles major, Alok Industries, will dilute a 33 per cent stake in its subsidiary, Alok H&A, in return for a Rs 45 crore infusion from Asiabridge Fund 1 LLC. The funds would be used for expansion and working capital purposes, he said. Alok H&A plans to have a 1,000 store network in the next four years from the present 154, all on a dealership basis.

Pantaloon same-store sales in lifestyle segment up 11%

Pantaloon Retail has returned to a double-digit growth rate in same-store sales (SSS) in the lifestyle segment. The country's largest retailer, which saw either a decline or a single-digit growth rate at best in SSS since November 2008, posted an increase of 11 per cent for the December quarter, aided by higher consumer spending in the category.

Premium carmaker SkodaAuto India, has launched its limited series of boutique showrooms in India. What is unique is that the showrooms (Skoda launched the second one in Mumbai last week), are not about selling cars, but to promote the brand. The boutique shops will have one car displayed inside, while the rest of the space will showcase a wide range of lifestyle products such as Skoda T-shirts, kit-cars, fashion and car accessories.
