Levi's instalment plan catches on in apparel

It seemed like a clever marketing gimmick when Levi Strauss (India) Pvt. Ltd offered an instalment plan in September for people buying its jeans and other products. But the move has worked well enough to be emulated, as leading apparel brands explore ways to make products more affordable to drive up sales. EMI facilities at the low end for organized apparel retail will work in India, say sector experts.

Koutons Retail to open 200 stores by FY11

Retailer Koutons Retail India plans to open 200 stores in FY11, in addition to its existing 1,400, a senior official said. Akash Deep Sandhu, General Manager, Sales and Marketing, said, of the 200 stores, 100 would be family concept stores, which would include women and children's wear.

Pashma selects Mumbai Airport for its first travel retail outlet

Family-owned company Pashma, the specialist supplier of luxury scarves and stoles, has opened its first self-owned and managed airport outlet. The store, which began trading at Mumbai International Airport on January 9,  2010, aims to characterise Pashma's 'vintage minimalism' design philosophy.

Express Avenue, Chennai, which is being promoted by Express Infrastructure, is set to soft launch on April 1, 2010 and the mall will be fully operational by the end of May 2010. Kim Culley, Chief Operations Officer, Express Avenue said, "Express Avenue will cater to a cross section of population and house brands starting from Big Bazaar to Lifestyle, to Marks & Spencer and other luxury and premium brands."
