Biyani to hive-off value segments into Future Value Retail

Kishore Biyani-led Pantaloon Retail India Ltd (PRIL) will hive-off its value segments - Big Bazaar and Food Bazaar - into a separate company called Future Value Retail from January 1.

Gitanjali arm plans fine dining, spa foray

Gitanjali Lifestyle, the retail arm of Rs 5,000-crore branded jewellery major Gitanjali Group, is drawing up mega plans to enter the spa business, speciality cosmetic and perfume stores, mini-theatres and a chain of fine dining restaurants.


Fastrack plans to have 50 stores in India by April 2010

Global Trendz (GTL), the exclusive licensee of Disney Baby and Disney Jeans in India, expects to touch the Rs 50-crore revenue mark by financial year 2011-12, led by strong sales traction for the year-old business. This financial year, the company is looking to clock Rs 10 crore in sales. The company operates four exclusive outlets under the 'Bungee' stores in Mumbai, Mysore and Nagpur.


Small towns hold key to Acer success

Personal computer maker Acer, which is eyeing the No. 1 spot in the domestic market by the end of next year, plans to expand its retail presence in smaller towns. "We plan to grow to over 350 stores by the end of 2010 with expansion on the retail front primarily focussed on the tier-II and tier-III cities," S. Rajendran, chief marketing officer of Acer India, said. At present, its retail business is divided into IT speciality stores and large-format stores.

Zapak to up its cafes to 300 by Jun '10, breakeven this fiscal
