FDI - Time to focus on the benefits

Wal-mart is all over the news in India again. With growth in the US slowing down significantly, it is increasing its focus on large international markets. CEO, Mike Duke is hoping to get FDI rules eased, timing it with President Obama's visit to India. Justice V Ramasubramanian, who delivered the order on Monday in Madurai, said the merger scheme will not be allowed in public interest as it may lead to the combined entity further raising money from the public, three lawyers present at the court said. The judge also added that Subhiksha was suffering from "multiple organ failure, was in a financial ICU and only a miracle could save it," according to these lawyers. The popular stores like Crossword, Landmark and Oxford and even pavement booksellers, are simply not stocking the book for fear of backlash from Shiv Sena, which has objected to a fictional character's take on its politics.
