Reliance Retail to invest Rs 150 cr to open 20 Hamleys stores

Reliance Retail, which has a tie-up with UK-based toy retailer Hamleys, said it plans to open 20 toy stores across the country, in the next seven years, with an investment of Rs 150 crore. The organised toy market in the country, estimated at Rs 1,500 crore is poised for a healthy growth, Reliance Retail President and Chief Executive (Lifestyle) Bijou Kurien said.

The Loot to open 50 more stores in next 6 months

The Loot, a Mumbai-based retail chain of discount stores, today said it plans to open 50 more outlets over the next six months in both existing as well as new destinations. "These will not only be in existing locations but also in smaller towns from where we are witnessing good demand," The Loot Managing Director, Jay Gupta said. The company operates 150 multi-brand apparel stores across the country, at present.

Japan’s Asahi Breweries eyes India entry

Japanese brewery and soft drinks major, Asahi Breweries, is preparing to enter the Indian market. The 1.47 trillion yen firm is in the process of studying the market and liquor sales regulations in different states. "Asahi plans to open firm owned kiosks in luxury malls and hypermarkets. It may also look at the option of forming joint ventures with domestic partners to enter the country," said Arvind Singhatiya, Head, International Initiatives, Franchise India.
