Marks & Spencer Reliance: On track to open 50 stores by 2014

Marks & Spencer Reliance India Pvt Ltd., a joint venture between Marks & Spencer Group PLC (MKS.LN) and a unit of India's Reliance Industries Ltd. (500325.BY), is on track to open 50 stores by 2014, its chief executive said.

Organic India initiates own chain of retail stores

Organic India which is involved in organic farming in Uttar Pradesh and export of herbal products abroad has now embarked upon setting up its own chain of exclusive retail stores in India. The company has already opened an exclusive retail store in Maharashtra and is in the process of inaugurating six more stores in Delhi, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Nagpur and Lucknow by March end.

Pollo Campero India to launch 50 stores by 2012

The Indian arm of the Latin American chicken restaurant chain, Pollo Campero, is planning to open 50 new outlets across the country in the next three years. "Half of them will be company owned and the other half will be sub-franchisees," Amit Burman, Vice Chairman, Dabur India Limited, and Chairman, Lite Bite Foods, the master franchisee for the chain in India, said.

The fading economic downturn has left at least one sector divided - apparel retailers. India's top brands are rushing to increase prices and introduce premium lines as the market recovers; the foreign brands would rather hold on to the lower prices of last year or cut the rates some more. Brands such as Indian Terrain, Scullers, Allen Solly, Van Heusen and Turtle spent most of last year attracting buyers with lower prices, but see a brighter 2010 to cash in on.
