Mr Kishore Biyani is getting ready to unleash his mobile services. It was at the IRF (India Retail Forum) last year that Mr Biyani had disclosed his plans to enter the telecom space with plans of making Rs 1000 crore on the project. Currently, the telecom project is being handled by Mr Biyani himself and the services are now on the threshold of being launched soon through his retail outlets.

Mafatlal to rejig 65 family retail stores with low sales

Mafatlal Industries Ltd, flagship of Rs 2,000-crore Arvind Mafatlal group, is taking a hard look at nearly 65 of its exclusive 'Mafatlal' branded family retail stores in cities where it is facing low demand, and will either relocate them or revive them through new product mix and better customer experience.

Future Group pulls the plug on 'Bijli Ghar'

Kishore Biyani's Future Group has shelved its plan to set up standalone stores for retailing electrical and lighting products to conserve cash, according to a company executive. Home Solutions Retail India Ltd (HSRIL), a unit of Future Group, was planning to enter the Rs 2,000-crore lighting products market with its own stores, called 'Bijli Ghar'. 

Mumbai-based home appliances manufacturer Jaipan Industries said it will foray into retail industry by opening 200 stores pan-India, to sell lighting accessories starting next month. "The company also plans to raise more capital (by way of rights issue) in the period ahead to fund our new ventures," Jaipan Industries Managing Director, J N Agarwal said. Jaipan plans to invest Rs 10-crore in the first phase of retail expansion.

Walgreens, Genpact ink 10-year outsourcing deal
