Gucci can open single-brand stores in India

The government has cleared the proposal to allow Gucci Group NV, Netherlands, for foreign equity participation of 51% stake in its Indian franchisee, Luxury Goods Retail Private Ltd, with an investment of Rs 1.04 crore. With the move, Gucci will now be able to enter the Indian retail market through single brand stores.

Lifestyle International, part of the Dubai-based $1.5 billion Landmark Group, plans to go ahead with its expansion plans in India, despite an economic crisis blowing back in its home country. The retail chain, which entered the country a decade ago with its first Lifestyle store in Chennai, is keen to push ahead with its plan to have 50 odd stores across India by 2012-13.

Aus retailer RFG bets big on Indian market

Betting big on the $12-billion Indian retail market, Australia's Retail Food Group plans to make its proposed venture here to be bigger than its domestic operations, within the next 15-20 years. The company, which will enter the Indian market next year, is aiming to clock a revenue of $87 million (about Rs 4022 crore) from the country, within five years from start of operations.

The national capital is the 65th most expensive retail destinations in the world with an average monthly rental of USD123 (Rs 5721) per sq ft, moving up four notches during the past six months, says a study by the real estate consultancy, CB Richard Ellis.
